Born Henry Wu and presently known under his alias Kamaal Williams, is an artist who plays an important role in the South London scene. Williams is well-known for fusing jazz with the sound of urban London, creating an easy-grooving style.
Williams came to prominence in 2016 as a member of the jazz-funk duo Yussef Kamaal with drummer Yussef Dayes. In that year the duo released an album, "Black Focus" which garnered a lot of attention and became one of the highest-profile UK jazz records of the decade. However, not long after Yussef Kamaal disbanded.
Williams returned in 2018 for his solo debut album, "The Return". The album found him honing his jazz-funk and electronic hybrid sound, working alongside two other bandmates. The ensemble features Josh McKenzie aka McKnasty on drums, a formidable force who was playing and touring with acts such as Dennis Rollins and Robert Glasper from the age of 17. Followed by, Pete Martin on Bass - an original member of Courtney Pine's infamous line up in the late '90s.
