Just 88 years young and arguably one of Cuba’s most iconic figures ever, the “Omara Es Cuba - The Last Kiss” tour has been announced as the Carribean diva’s final international tour ever. Recognised by many as the female voice of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club®, Omara Portuondo has led a highly successful career whether as part of the aforementioned group, one of the primary voices of the Cuarteto D’Aida, or all by herself.
Intentionally choosing to step away from the extravagance in favour of a stripped-down set up for this special journey, the core focus of this tour is intimacy. The orchestra will be left at home and there will be no horns or big bands. In place, Omara has handpicked amongst her most trusted collaborators and friends to form a small combo of the time-honored constellation of piano, bass, drums, and percussion led by musical director Roberto Foncesca.
The aptly-named “Omara Es Cuba” part of the tour name translates from Spanish as “Omara Is Cuba”, which could not have been more fitting. Respected internationally far beyond the shores of home, her name is associated with every aspect of Cuban culture worldwide. She masterfully compliments her vocal articulations with physical accompaniments and expressive facial gestures and emotions. Utilizing all that she has picked up as a dancer and actress almost 7 decades ago in Havana, she melds these qualities to compliment her inimitable voice and music; effortlessly leading to sold-out shows night after night across the world.
The "Omara Es Cuba - The Last Kiss” tour in Singapore 2019 is proudly presented by SINGJAZZ and VAMPS Productions.
