Singapore welcomes Canadian psychedelic folk band, Timber Timbre for their debut performance on May 23. The group features Taylor Kirk, co-composers Mathieu Charbonneau & Simon Trottier, and drummer Olivier Fairfield. Together, they offer their most daring artistic work yet.
Sounds familiar? Maybe listening to their showrunner tunes from popular Netflix series such as Breaking Bad, The Good Wife, Orange is the New Black, and The Blacklist (to name a few) would jog the memory.
Timber Timbre’s music has always traced a shadowed path, using cues of the past to fuse the sound of a distant, haunted now. On its fourth record – Sincerely, Future Pollution – Timber Timbre coats the stark, sensual sound of 2014’s Hot Dreams in an oil-black rainbow of municipal grime. It is the cinema of a dizzying dystopia, rattled by the science fiction of this bluntly nonfictional time. Their fourth album, Creep on Creepin’ On, was also one of ten shortlisted nominees for the Polaris Music Prize, losing to Arcade Fire’s ‘The Suburbs’ in 2011.
Expect a cinematic dazzling dystopia, with breezy and chill beats to carry the night away. Kirk’s chilling croon and the mid-apocalyptic setting of his poetry covers a spectrum of New Age to Popular French Disco Revival, with a sound that is synthetic, exotic, yet familiar.
